Backing Obama

Why would Neil lose fans by backing Pres. Obama and saying he'll vote for him in 2012? If a person will ditch a singer because they can't respect their right to have their own personal opinions then they aren't a true fan (and thus a fan was never lost).
I don't pick and choose what musical acts or actors I like based on their political views. Why should I or anyone?
I myself think Neil is backing the correct candidate... and I'm a registered Republican. I a registered Republican voted for Obama (my first time crossing party lines) in 2008 and I plan to again in 2012.
If you ever happen to see this feel free to respond, but I might not see it for a long time because I rarely ever check in here... usually only around the time Neil is doing a concert in my area or has just released a CD.
