Though I am no longer a motorcoach driver I was Neil's personal driver starting in 1986 at Blossom Music Center, Akron, OH. Though I originally drove in just Ohio and PA, I was eventually his "requested" driver in all the major East Coast cities for nearly 15 years. Though a fan of Neil's way before 1986, I grew into an even bigger fan one concert at a time. I have almost every "vinyl" album that Neil has made including an autographed copy of his first "The Feel of Neil Diamond".
I will never forget how nice everyone (including Neil) always was to me. Neil never forgot to thank me for the ride at the end of each day. Though I always made "dry runs" to be sure of the route, there was one time I was unable to do that in Washington, DC. To make a long story short, I made a wrong turn and ended up somewhere that we obviously shouldn't have been. It was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life, but the NDRRT laughed it off and wrote a fun song about it."
I will also never forget taking the motorcoach up the ramp at Madison Square Garden. They tell me that I am the only one to ever have a bus up on top. The "Welcome Home Neil" segment of the Hot August Night / NYC DVD brought back memories when I saw the footage of that very same ramp.
